Learning Mandarin Chinese

Mandarin Chinese is the most widely spoken language in the world, and one of the most sought after languages by employers in the current economy.

It’s never too soon to start!  Research shows that language acquisition comes naturally to babies and young children, and that a critical period for acquiring language exists from the age of 0 to 7 years old.  Moreover, children who have a second language in elementary school are far more likely to become fluent than those who begin learning a second language in high school.

Children’s Chinese Courses

Kinder Chinese Ages 4-6 years

This class that uses music, art, and role-playing to introduce Chinese phrases and vocabulary.  Children will be taught to recognize and write basic Chinese characters.  Beginners will focus on speaking and listening skills while more advanced students will learn more complex vocabulary and conversation skills.

Chinese 1 (Beginner) Ages 6-10 years

This class is designed for children who have had little or no previous exposure to Chinese language. The emphasis of this class will be on learning beginning vocabulary, speaking and listening to basic phrases in Chinese, and pronouncing the phonetic sounds (pinyin) that make up Chinese words. Students will be taught to recognize and write commonly used Chinese characters.

Chinese 2 (Intermediate) Ages 7-12 years

This class is designed for children who have studied Chinese for over one year.  The emphasis of this class will be on increasing spoken and written vocabulary, asking and answering conversational phrases and sentences in Chinese, and writing sentences.

Chinese 3 (Adv. Intermediate) Ages 7-12 years

This class is designed for children who have studied Chinese for over two years.  The emphasis of this class will be on more advanced spoken and written vocabulary, asking and answering conversational phrases using different sentence structures in Chinese, and reading and writing.

Chinese 4-6 (Advanced) Ages 9-14 years

These classes are designed for students who have studied Chinese for over three years or more.  The emphasis of these higher level classes will be on more advanced speaking and writing with a deeper understanding of grammar, asking and answering conversational phrases using different sentence structures in Chinese, and reading and writing without relying on pinyin.
